London’s education technology sector is driving the revolution in developing new learning technologies. Here are four ways London is leading the way in this emerging sector.

1. World-class universities

London is home to four of the world's top 40 universities[1] and together with its vibrant tech ecosystem, it’s the perfect place for edtech companies to set up and grow.

One of these universities, University College London, provides an edtech-focused masters programme called Education and Technology MA.

2. A buzzing ecosystem

London has a thriving ecosystem of more than 230 edtech companies, powering innovations using technology to change the way people learn.

Startups like Multiverse and Perlego are great examples of businesses scaling in the capital. This ecosystem also provides easy access to incubators that specialise in edtech, such as Founders Factory, Entrepreneur First, UCL Educate and Educate Accelerator.

London is home to many VC firms that specialise in edtech, making it easy for startups to access early-stage funding.

Emerge Education and IBIS Capital are big VC players in the London edtech ecosystem.

London-based edtech companies attracted £390m funding in 2022 across 48 deals.

4. Room for opportunities

Edtech is one of the fastest growing sectors in the UK, growing at 22% year-on-year and valued at $4.68bn in 2021[2]. London's ecosystem is the largest in Europe with an estimated value of $2bn[3].
